Record overload?

March 5, 2010

AutorickshawsWe post an article direct from the Navhind Times. The larger autorickshaw (Tempo) is designed for about 5 people including driver. We have to guess that it couldn’t have been the more common rickshaw (Bajaj) designed to carry two…could it? But it was probably a rickshaw designed for carriage of goods, which is a wire cage mounted on a scooter.

BICHOLIM: As many as 20 persons were injured, nine of them in serious condition when the
rickshaw in which they were travelling lost control and went off the road at Kothiwada, Karapur,
at 4.45 p.m. on Thursday.
According to police the rickshaw was transporting a ‘Romtamel’ (troupe) of about 20 persons
from Karapur to Dhawaskarwada-Sarvan when the driver of the rickshaw lost control over the
wheel before falling on its side.
The injured were immediately rushed to the primary health centre, Sanquelim while the nine
among them who sustained grievous injuries were later moved to Goa Medical College (GMC)
and Hospital, Bambolim for further treatment.

The head constable attached to Sanquelim police outpost, Mr Harishchandra Parab conducted
the panchanama. A case of accident has been registered.

PS We also guess that no prosecution for dangerous driving, followed by disqualification etc etc will come to pass.
